The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has withdrawn an earlier memorandum announcing the suspension of all non-academic student activities, assuring students, staff and other members of the university community that normal academic and extracurricular engagements will continue without interruption.
In a press release issued by the institution’s Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Dr. Sam Kpenu, the university explained that the memorandum dated July 20, 2026, titled “Suspension of All Non-Academic-Related Student Activities,” had been brought to the attention of the management after it began circulating across various platforms.
The management stated that the memorandum had been withdrawn with immediate effect and directed members of the university community and the general public to disregard the earlier communication.
According to the statement, all previously approved academic and non-academic activities across the university’s faculties, departments, centres, institutes and other academic units will proceed as originally scheduled.
The clarification means that lectures, practical sessions, seminars, conferences, student association programmes, sporting activities, cultural events and other approved campus engagements remain unaffected by the withdrawn directive.
University management expressed regret over any confusion or inconvenience the earlier memorandum may have caused to students, members of staff, parents and other stakeholders, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring effective communication on matters affecting the institution.
The latest clarification has brought relief to many students and campus organisations who had expressed uncertainty over the status of planned academic and extracurricular activities following the circulation of the initial memorandum.
