The Medical Students’ Association of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTAMSA) has honoured the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, with an Award of Appreciation in recognition of her leadership and commitment to the successful accreditation of the University’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The award was presented during a courtesy visit by the student association to the Vice-Chancellor, where members expressed gratitude for what they described as the administration’s unwavering support, strategic planning and sustained investment in the development of the College of Medicine. The students noted that the successful accreditation marked a major milestone in the University’s journey towards becoming a leading institution for medical education in Nigeria.
Presenting the award, the President of FUTAMSA, Ayanfeoluwa Abraham, said the honour reflected the appreciation of the medical students for the Vice-Chancellor’s dedication to ensuring that the MBBS programme met the standards required by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. According to him, the successful accreditation has strengthened students’ confidence in the future of medical training at the university while creating a solid foundation for academic excellence and professional development.
He explained that the accreditation process required careful planning, infrastructural development, academic preparedness and institutional commitment, adding that the support provided by the university management played a significant role in achieving the positive outcome. He further stated that the recognition symbolised the students’ appreciation for the leadership demonstrated throughout the accreditation exercise.
Receiving the award, Professor Oladiji thanked the students for the honour and described it as a collective achievement shared by the entire university community. She remarked that the accreditation was made possible through the commitment and dedication of members of staff, administrators and students who worked tirelessly to ensure that the programme satisfied the regulatory requirements of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the College of Medicine for its resilience and determination throughout the accreditation process, reaffirming the University’s resolve to sustain high standards in medical education, research and clinical training. She assured the students that the institution would continue to invest in modern facilities, quality teaching and professional development to produce competent medical graduates capable of meeting contemporary healthcare needs.
Professor Oladiji also encouraged the medical students to remain focused on their studies and uphold the ethical values of the medical profession, stressing that academic excellence, discipline and compassion are essential qualities expected of future healthcare professionals.

Also present during the visit were the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor N. C. Olagbuji; the Deputy Provost, Professor V. O. Ukwenya; the Dean of the School of Basic Clinical Sciences, Professor Mojisola Udoh; the College Coordinator of the MBBS Programme, Dr Dennis S. Arokoyo; and the College Secretary, Mr Korede Ayeni.
The recognition comes shortly after the successful accreditation of FUTA’s MBBS programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, a development widely regarded as a significant step in the University’s expansion into medical education. The accreditation enables the institution to continue training future medical doctors under nationally approved standards while reinforcing its commitment to excellence in healthcare education, research and service delivery.
