The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has extended the deadline for the submission of textbooks and instructional materials for its 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise to August 7, 2026, giving publishers and authors additional time to participate in the national quality assurance process.
The extension comes after the council had earlier shifted the submission deadline to July 3, 2026, following approval by the Federal Ministry of Education in response to requests from publishers, authors and other stakeholders who sought more time to comply with the requirements of the new textbook assessment framework.
In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu, the council said the latest extension is intended to provide another opportunity for eligible participants to complete and submit their instructional materials for evaluation.
He urged publishers, authors and other stakeholders to take advantage of the extension and ensure that all submissions fully comply with the council’s approved Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines.
According to NERDC, the assessment criteria and submission procedures remain unchanged and can be accessed through the council’s official website.
The council, however, stressed that the August 7 deadline is final, warning that no further extension would be granted.
“No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the statement said.
NERDC thanked publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation and encouraged them to complete the submission process within the stipulated period.
The textbook assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of learning resources used in Nigerian schools and ensure that instructional materials conform to the national curriculum and established educational standards.
The exercise also supports the Ministry of Education’s broader reforms aimed at strengthening quality assurance in teaching and learning materials through a transparent national textbook evaluation and ranking system.
