Academic activities at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) experienced disruption after aggrieved workers staged a peaceful protest and blocked access to the office of the Vice-Chancellor over the alleged non-payment of outstanding allowances.
The protesters, comprising members of staff, demanded the immediate settlement of allowances they claimed had remained unpaid despite previous engagements with the university management. The workers maintained that the prolonged delay had imposed financial hardship on employees and called for urgent action to resolve the matter.
During the demonstration, the workers prevented access to the Vice-Chancellor’s office while displaying placards bearing various inscriptions expressing dissatisfaction over the delay in the payment of their entitlements.
The protest temporarily affected administrative activities within the institution, as staff members gathered to press home their demands for improved welfare and prompt payment of outstanding allowances.
The aggrieved workers insisted that they had exercised patience for an extended period but decided to embark on the protest after repeated efforts to secure payment failed to produce the desired outcome.
