The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has given candidates with outstanding admission offers from the 2020 to 2025 admission cycles until August 31, 2026, to accept or reject the offers on its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The board, in an advisory posted on its official X handle, warned that candidates who fail to respond to pending offers before the deadline risk forfeiting them.
JAMB directed affected candidates to log into their profiles and check CAPS for any outstanding admission offers, urging them to take appropriate action before the deadline.
Candidates who wish to take up an offer are required to accept it on the platform, while those who do not want the admission can reject it.
The directive has, however, generated concerns among some applicants, particularly those still awaiting admission decisions from their preferred institutions.
Some prospective students questioned the timing of the deadline, noting that several universities were yet to conduct their Post-UTME screening exercises or release their admission lists for the 2026/2027 academic session.
One applicant questioned the rationale for setting a deadline for candidates while some universities were still conducting their admission processes.
Another candidate argued that universities should also be given timelines to conclude their screening and admission exercises, rather than placing the deadline solely on applicants.
The reactions highlight concerns about the coordination of admission timelines between JAMB and tertiary institutions, particularly for candidates waiting for their preferred universities to complete their processes.
CAPS serves as JAMB’s central platform for the processing and monitoring of admissions. Candidates can use the system to check admission offers and indicate whether they accept or reject them.
JAMB advised affected candidates not to wait until the deadline before checking their profiles and responding to any pending offers.
