Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will no longer be required to repeatedly pay for verification of the same West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results under a new arrangement introduced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will pay ₦4,000 once to verify their WAEC results through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform.
The verification outcome will subsequently be made available to the relevant tertiary institution for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
The development is expected to reduce the financial and administrative burden on admission seekers, many of whom have previously had to undergo separate verification processes when institutions requested confirmation of the same academic credentials.
JAMB and WAEC announced the arrangement in a joint statement issued on Tuesday following a series of meetings and consultations on the implementation of the WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
The two bodies stressed that the ₦4,000 payment is to be made only through the specified JAMB Verification Service platform, and not to individual tertiary institutions.
They also directed institutions to use the verified results supplied by JAMB, effectively ending the practice of asking candidates to pay again to verify the same WAEC result.
“This arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’ Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” JAMB and WAEC said.
The arrangement also means that candidates will be able to initiate the verification process remotely, including from their homes or other internet-enabled locations, rather than repeatedly visiting tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
The bodies said the arrangement was designed to simplify the admission process while reducing unnecessary costs and protecting the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
The new system comes against the backdrop of JAMB’s recent move to expand online O’Level result services, allowing candidates to handle aspects of the result submission and verification process electronically.
For admission seekers, the major change is that verification will now be treated as a one-off process, with the verified outcome subsequently available to the institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to take advantage of the new arrangement and complete their WASSCE O’Level verification through the approved JAMB platform.
The two examination and admission bodies further warned candidates to avoid making verification payments directly to tertiary institutions, as the ₦4,000 charge under the new arrangement is payable through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform.
The policy, which took effect from September 1, 2026, is expected to streamline one of the recurring administrative requirements faced by candidates during the tertiary admission process.
