Eligible university and college students in Nigeria are among those who can access a year of Google’s AI Plus subscription at no cost under an offer extended to 27 African countries.

The programme gives qualifying students access to Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence tools and additional features intended to support academic research, coursework and examination preparation.

The offer includes increased usage limits for Gemini, 400GB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, as well as tools that allow students to organise learning materials, generate practice quizzes and explore complex subjects through interactive visualisations.

Students can also use Gemini to analyse lecture notes, seek explanations of difficult topics and engage with the AI assistant through voice conversations using Gemini Live. The plan includes video-generation capabilities, although access to individual features may vary.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, be enrolled in an eligible higher education institution in a participating country and complete Google’s student verification process. Verification may be handled through SheerID.

Besides Nigeria, the participating countries are Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Interested students can visit Google’s official Gemini for Students page, sign in with their Google account, complete the required student verification and follow the instructions to activate the subscription.

The offer is scheduled to remain open for redemption until December 31, 2026. Students are advised to review the eligibility requirements and complete activation before the deadline.

The subscription is designed to give students additional digital resources for learning and research, though users should check the terms of the offer and the availability of specific features before signing up.
