The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), under the leadership of Arc. Sonny Echono, has honoured
its staff in a grand gesture of appreciation for their dedication and hard work. The ceremony, held at
TETFund’s headquarters, saw 19 employees rewarded for their exceptional performance during the
2024 service year.
As part of its 2024 Long Service/Staff of the Year Awards, TETFund also celebrated 27 staff members for
their enduring commitment to the agency. These individuals received long-service awards, categorized
into Bronze, Silver, and Gold based on their years of service.
Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of excellence,
teamwork, and dedication within the organization. He noted that recognizing outstanding employees
boosts morale, motivates the workforce, and creates a positive work environment. “Acknowledging
staff contributions expresses our gratitude and inspires them to deliver exceptional results,” Echono
said, urging the awardees to see their recognition as motivation to strive harder. He encouraged other
staff members to remain committed, reassuring them that their time to be celebrated would come.
Echono also announced a salary increase for staff, approved by the TETFund Board of Trustees, ending a
13-year stagnation. The Board also endorsed payment of salary arrears, bringing cheers from the excited
workforce.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Excellent Performance Awards. Five staff
members received the Silver category award, seven were recognized in the Bronze category, and six top
performers from TETFund’s zonal offices were also honoured. The prestigious Gold Award for “Staff of
the Year” went to Ms. Sanusi Gumbi, a standout performer. Speaking at the event, Chairman of
TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, commended the staff and the Executive
Secretary for their exceptional contributions to the Fund’s success. He praised their hard work, which
has significantly enhanced the agency’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most improved public institutions.
The event reaffirmed TETFund’s commitment to rewarding excellence and fostering an environment of
dedication and productivity among its workforce.
