The Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, has
expressed profound sadness over the tragic death of three students in a fatal lone accident that
occurred on Friday along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye road.
The accident claimed the lives of Nifesimi Dada, a 300-level Geology student; Opeyemi Joshua, a 200-
level Taxation student; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, a 200-level Mass Communication student. Two
other students involved in the crash were rushed to the hospital and are currently receiving medical
attention. In a statement issued on Saturday by Dr. Wale Balogun of the Corporate Affairs Division, Prof.
Agboola extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the university community. He
described the loss as devastating and pledged the institution’s support for the affected families during
this difficult time. “The University is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in this unfortunate
incident,” Prof. Agboola said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families. We can only
imagine the unbearable pain and grief they must be experiencing, and we want them to know that they
are not alone in their sorrow. The loss of precious lives is always devastating, especially under such
tragic circumstances.”
The Vice-Chancellor also assured the university community of the institution’s commitment to
maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff. The accident, which involved a
commercial Opel Safira vehicle with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE, occurred at approximately 3:30
PM on December 20, 2024. According to the spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola
Odutola, the vehicle, driven by one Adekunkle Adebiyi, was traveling at high speed when it lost control
and flipped into the bushes.
Odutola confirmed that one male passenger, whose identity has not been verified but is believed to be a
student of OOU, died at the scene. The bodies of the deceased were later taken to the General Hospital
mortuary in Ijebu Ode.
The police statement also revealed that two other victims, identified as female students of OOU,
succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at Love and Care Hospital. Two survivors are
currently under medical care at the OOU Medical Centre on the Mini Campus.
The Vice-Chancellor has called for prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and strength for
their families to bear the irreparable loss. Meanwhile, the police have recovered the vehicle and are
investigating the incident.
