A disturbing turn of events has marred the aftermath of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at the University of Ibadan, as a clash between students from Independence Hall (Indy) and Zik Hall has left a 500L student injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a group of supporters from Indy embarked on a march towards Zik Hall, ostensibly to celebrate their victory in the election. However, the situation quickly escalated into violence, resulting in the injury of the 500L student.
The Students Union President, Aweda Bolaji, has confirmed the incident via a WhatsApp status update, stating that a total of three students have been rushed to JAJA Clinic for treatment.
The injured student is currently undergoing medical attention, including an X-ray test to assess the extent of the injury.
The University of Ibadan community is in shock over the incident, with many students expressing outrage and disappointment over the violence that has marred the election.
The authorities have been urged to take immediate action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of all students on campus.
The incident has raised questions about the level of maturity and sportsmanship exhibited by some students during the election, and has highlighted the need for greater tolerance and respect for differing opinions.
As the investigation into the incident continues, the University of Ibadan community remains on edge, hoping that calm will be restored and that the injured student will make a full recovery.
