The Oyo State House of Assembly has tasked the House Committee on Education to work closely with the Ministry of Education, TESCOM, SUBEB, and other relevant education bodies to develop a strategy for implementing digital lesson notes in primary and secondary schools across the state.
Honorable Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju, introduced the motion titled “Need to Digitalize Education Management System in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in the State through Institutionalization of E-Lesson Notes for Teachers for Effective Service Delivery.”
In his presentation, Adeola called for the phasing out of traditional lesson note writing, which he described as outdated and inconsistent with global educational standards. He pointed out that teachers in Oyo State have been burdened with the task of manually duplicating lesson notes for many years. He argued that this practice deprives teachers of valuable time that could otherwise be spent researching, updating their knowledge with e-learning resources, and adapting to a technology-driven world.
According to Adeola, adopting digital lesson notes would streamline lesson planning, reduce the workload for teachers, and foster greater student engagement. He also highlighted the success of neighboring states such as Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, as well as Edo and Kaduna, which have already implemented e-lesson platforms.
Honorable Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atiba State Constituency, expressed his support for the motion, applauding Adeola’s initiative. Oyekola emphasized that Oyo State, known for its leadership in innovation, must not fall behind in embracing technological advancements.
Honorable Dawood Akanni D-Alameen, representing Ibadan NorthWest, shared concerns about the negative impact of the traditional lesson planning process on teachers’ mental health. He urged the House to take decisive action to alleviate the burden on educators.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, commended Adeola for his proposal and agreed that the House Committee on Education should collaborate with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to create a roadmap for the adoption of digital lesson notes.
