The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) campus was abuzz with angry students protesting against the orchestrated plan by the SSANU National Women Committee to destabilize the university. The students were reacting to phantom allegations of sexual harassment against the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, allegedly by Folasade Adebayo, a member of Fuoye staff.
Armed with placards bearing bold messages, the students marched through the campus, condemning the SSANU National Women Committee’s actions. Some of the placards read: “Spread Love, not Hatred”, “We love Our V.C, stop the Hate”, “United against Harassment”, and “Say no to Defamation of Character” amongst many others.
The students were unanimous in their condemnation of the allegations, describing them as baseless and malicious. They argued that the VC had been a father figure to them, providing guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
“We will not stand idly by while our VC is being maligned and harassed,” said one of the student leaders. “We demand that SSANU provides concrete evidence to support their allegations, or else they should retract their statement and apologize to the VC.”
The students also expressed their disappointment with the SSANU National Women Committee, saying that they had expected more from an organization that claims to promote the welfare of women.
“We expect SSANU to be a beacon of hope and support for women, not a tool for character assassination,” said another student. “Their actions are a betrayal of the trust that women have placed in them.”
As the protest continued, the students called on the university authorities to take decisive action against the SSANU National Women Committee. They demanded that the committee be held accountable for their actions and that the VC be cleared of the false allegations.
The students also appealed to the general public to disregard the allegations, saying that they were nothing but a fabrication. They assured the public that the VC was a man of integrity and that he would never engage in such unbecoming behavior.
As the protest came to a close, the students vowed to continue their fight against injustice and to protect their VC from further harassment. They promised to remain vigilant and to ensure that the truth prevails.
In a statement, the Student Union Government (SUG) of FUOYE commended the students for their bravery and solidarity. The SUG assured the students that they would continue to support them in their fight against injustice and that they would work tirelessly to ensure that the VC is cleared of the false allegations.
