Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa has pledged to support the establishment of a medical faculty at OAUSTECH, a move that promises to significantly enhance healthcare education and services in Ondo State. His promise was made during the university’s 3rd convocation ceremony on March 4, 2025, at its main auditorium in Okitipupa, following a request from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa.
“Through research, we discovered that the Ondo South senatorial district is lagging in health education,” said Prof. Ologunorisa. “We plead with you to upgrade either the Okitipupa or Igbokoda state specialist hospital into a teaching hospital, so we can launch a college of medicine.”
OAUSTECH conferred undergraduate degrees on 991 graduates, including 31 First Class honors, 387 Second Class Upper, 495 Second Class Lower, and 102 Third Class students. This year’s convocation also marked the university’s first graduation of postgraduate students, highlighting its transition from a teaching institution to a research-driven one. Prof. Ologunorisa further noted that some graduates had been accepted into prestigious U.S. universities for PhD programs, underscoring the university’s academic rigor.
Governor Ayedatiwa reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education in Ondo State. “In our pursuit of educational excellence, we are focused on developing state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure our students benefit from world-class learning environments.” he stated, emphasizing the state’s support for the medical faculty once it is ready. He also highlighted other ongoing projects, including the Maritime Transport and Logistics Academy in Ilaje Local Government Area.
The Pro-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Akinwunmi Adesomoju, thanked the governor for his consistent support and congratulated the graduates on their accomplishments, stating, “Your achievements are a reflection of the quality of education at OAUSTECH.”
