The 29th Convocation Ceremony of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, was more than a formal celebration—it was a dialogue on the future, a meeting of aspirations and realities. As hundreds of graduates donned their academic gowns, a palpable sense of excitement and curiosity filled the air. The Nigeria Education News Interactive Section took the opportunity to engage with these young minds, capturing their thoughts on life beyond the university walls.
“This is both an exciting and terrifying moment for me,” said Oluwaseun Adebayo, an Engineering graduate. “We’ve spent years preparing for this, and now we are finally here. I know challenges await, but I am ready to innovate and contribute.”

For many, the transition from student life to the workforce is a daunting leap. Law graduate Temidayo Ayeni admitted, “We are stepping into an economy that is unpredictable, but we have been trained to think critically and adapt. That is what will set us apart.”
Beyond the graduates, proud parents also took a moment to reflect on the journey. Mrs. Funmi Aluko, whose daughter earned a degree in Law, was overwhelmed with emotion. “Watching my daughter walk across that stage today is a moment I will cherish forever. It was worth every sacrifice. Now, I pray she finds her path and makes a meaningful impact.”
The day was not just about receiving certificates—it was about recognizing the responsibilities that come with them. Graduates expressed their readiness to take on the world. “I see myself leading in the tech industry,” said Chidi Nwankwo, a Computer Science graduate. “Nigeria has so much potential in this field, and I want to be part of that growth.”
Medical graduate Tolulope Ogunyemi spoke passionately about healthcare in Nigeria. “There are too many gaps in our health sector, and I want to be part of the solution. This degree is just the beginning of my journey to making a difference.”
For some, the convocation was a reminder of the power of perseverance. Adeola Ojo, a graduate of Linguistics and African Studies, shared her story. “There were times I wanted to give up, but I pushed through. Today, I stand here proud, knowing that the struggles were worth it.”
Among the graduates were also aspiring entrepreneurs. “I don’t just want to work for someone; I want to create jobs,” said Taiwo Olatunji, who studied Economics. “This country needs innovators, and I intend to be one.”
The graduates also shared their thoughts on the role of mentorship and networking. “Beyond academics, I’ve learned that relationships matter,” said Janet Adeyemi, a Theatre and Media Arts graduate. “Connections and continuous learning will be key to my success.”
As the ceremony drew to a close, graduates tossed their caps into the air, a symbolic gesture of their readiness to take on the world. “This is just the beginning,” said Damilola Shittu, a Microbiology graduate. “We are stepping out with confidence, and we are ready to make a difference.”
With hope in their hearts and determination in their minds, the graduates of EKSU embark on a new journey, ready to redefine success and leave their mark on the world.
