The Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, on Thursday, 24th April 2025, officially matriculated 4,046 students for the 2024/2025 academic session at the Ipaye Lecture Theatre, located on the university’s main campus.
This matriculation ceremony marks a historic milestone for AFUED, as it is the first since the institution transitioned from a college to a university.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Akintunde, congratulated the new students and highlighted the importance of their admission into what he called “the best teacher training institution in Nigeria.”
“You are now part of Nigeria’s foremost institution for teacher education. This is an opportunity you must value, and I encourage you to be proud of joining this great university,” Prof. Akintunde told the students.
The Vice-Chancellor reminded the freshers that the matriculation oath they took was not just a ceremonial act, but a binding contract between them and the university.
“The oath you have taken today commits you to be a good ambassador of this institution. You are now bound by the rules and regulations of the university. Any action contrary to these rules will attract sanctions,” he stated.
Prof. Akintunde also cautioned the students against engaging in social vices, including cultism, drug abuse, sexual harassment, theft, and examination malpractices, stressing the need for them to uphold the integrity of the university.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the University Admissions Committee and the staff of the Division of Senate Matters and Admissions, led by Mr. Oladele Olufemi Balogun, for ensuring a seamless admission process.
In addition, Prof. Akintunde expressed his gratitude to the Ondo State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who represented the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede, at the ceremony.
