The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has ordered the closure of two privately-managed female hostels following reported breaches of its student code of conduct and persistent safety concerns.
The affected hostels — both known as Al-Ansar Indabo and located along UDB Road and in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis — have been stripped of the university’s endorsement with immediate effect.
This development was made public on Monday through an official statement signed by Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President for Campus Life.
According to the statement, the decision was reached after the university received disturbing reports involving immoral activities, unauthorized night movements, and the presence of non-students sharing the accommodation. Other issues cited include poor living conditions, erratic water and power supply, and incidents of student violence.
“These issues constitute serious violations of the university’s code of conduct and pose significant risks to the safety and well-being of our students,” Dr. Garba said.
As a result, the university has directed all students currently residing in the affected hostels to vacate the premises immediately after the conclusion of the current semester’s examinations. Students have also been advised to sever any form of association with the facilities going forward.
Dr. Garba noted that the university is working in collaboration with security agencies to ensure full compliance with the directive..
The university further stated that it would not be held liable for any consequences arising from non-compliance with the directive.
