Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Ayelabola Ololade, a final-year Computer Science student of the University of Lagos, who recently earned a place in the Guinness World Records for the longest distance ever walked on a runway by a model.
The 24-year-old model achieved the rare feat after covering a staggering 130.62 kilometres — completing 2,058 laps — at the UNILAG Indoor Sports Centre, surpassing a record that had stood unchallenged for over four decades.
Governor Sanwo-Olu received the record-breaker at the Lagos House, Marina, on Tuesday, where he described her as a shining example of the creativity, discipline, and determination that define the spirit of Lagos youth.
“Ololade’s story is one of courage, vision, and the power of believing in oneself,” the governor said. “Her global recognition is not just a personal victory but a win for the entire state.”
The governor shared photos of the visit on his official X handle, expressing hope that her accomplishment would motivate other young Nigerians to aim higher and defy limits. “Her dedication and talent exemplify the incredible potential of our youth,” he wrote.
Ololade, also known as Thelady_wonder on social media, said she embarked on the challenge to test her physical and mental limits — and to show what young Nigerian women are capable of when given the right support.
The Lagos State Government has, in recent years, consistently spotlighted the achievements of young talents across the state — from tech to sports, fashion to academics — as part of its broader youth empowerment and creative economy agenda.
Her triumph has not only brought honour to the University of Lagos but also placed Nigeria — and Lagos in particular — on the global stage once again for excellence and innovation.
