Senate President Godswill Akpabio was seen stepping into the role of a classroom teacher as he engaged with students at a newly constructed school in Akwa Ibom State over the weekend. The event took place during the official inauguration of a series of constituency projects across Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
A video that has since gone viral captured the Senate President inside a classroom, interacting with students and delivering a brief lesson. The spontaneous teaching moment drew admiration from many Nigerians, especially residents of the state, who viewed it as a show of humility and commitment to education by one of the country’s top-ranking legislators.
The school where the interaction took place is one of 33 newly completed constituency projects commissioned by Senator Akpabio in his senatorial district. The projects span critical sectors, including education, healthcare, security, and commerce, reflecting a broad and inclusive development strategy for grassroots transformation.
Among the projects inaugurated were a new school block at the Secondary Commercial School in Otoro, a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, the Abiakpo Water Works Road in Ikot Ekpene, and a 3-kilometre stretch of Adaha Ayam Road in Abak. Also unveiled were a newly constructed police station and the Ultra-Modern Market at Urua Adet Obo.
In his remarks during the project tour, Senator Akpabio reaffirmed his commitment to bringing meaningful development to the people of Akwa Ibom. He stated that the projects were designed to uplift the standard of living and improve access to quality infrastructure in the senatorial district.
The Senate President also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of federal agencies, community leaders, and local contractors who worked tirelessly to ensure the timely completion of the projects. He urged students and teachers to make good use of the newly provided school facilities, assuring that more interventions are underway.
Residents of the district and beneficiaries of the projects expressed gratitude to the Senate President for delivering on his promises. Many lauded the educational focus of the interventions, noting that investing in schools and learning environments would have a lasting impact on future generations.
Senator Akpabio’s brief return to the classroom, though symbolic, served to reinforce the importance of education in national development — a message that resonated well with the public and complemented the broader developmental vision behind the projects inaugurated.
