The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to 18 academic programmes at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. The announcement was made following the successful outcome of the recent accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission’s team of evaluators in Abuja. The development was conveyed in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor of EKSU.
The letter, signed by Engineer Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation at the NUC, was received with joy by the university community, signaling a new chapter in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence. The accreditation covers postgraduate and undergraduate programmes across five faculties including Arts, Education, Engineering, Science, and Social Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Law and Administration.
According to the NUC’s approval document, the newly accredited postgraduate programmes include M.Sc. Business Administration, Master of Personnel Management, M.Sc. Finance, Master of Public Administration, and Master of Business Administration. In the Faculty of Arts, Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, and Philosophy were among those accredited, while the Faculty of Education received approval for programs in Building and Woodwork Technology Education, Electrical and Electronic Technology Education, Metal and Auto Mechanic Technology Education, and Christian Religious Studies Education.
In the Faculty of Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Computer Engineering secured full accreditation. The Faculty of Law also had its Law programme revalidated, ensuring that students pursuing legal education at EKSU will continue to receive training that meets national academic standards. Additionally, the Science faculty saw the accreditation of its Geology programme, while Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences was also approved.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, described the accreditation as a “dream fulfilled” and a reflection of the tireless commitment of both the academic and administrative teams. He noted that the success of the exercise positions the university as a leading institution capable of producing graduates equipped for national development and global relevance.
Professor Ayodele further acknowledged the pivotal support of Ekiti State Governor and Visitor to the university, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who is also an alumnus of the institution. He praised the Governor’s unflinching interest in the growth of higher education in the state, describing his leadership as a critical factor in EKSU’s growing national and international profile.
The Vice Chancellor also extended appreciation to Professor Akin Oyebode, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, as well as other stakeholders including alumni and staff for their contributions toward the institution’s ongoing transformation. According to him, the accreditation will boost the university’s ability to attract more students, foster international collaborations, and reinforce its position in the Times Higher Education 2025 ranking, which recently named EKSU the best state university in Nigeria.
The Deputy Registrar and Head of Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun, also confirmed the development in an official statement. He emphasized that the latest accreditation underscores the university’s strategic focus on expanding quality education in cutting-edge and professionally relevant disciplines, in alignment with national development goals and global academic benchmarks.
