The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Students Union has announced the temporary closure of the student portal due to technical issues. According to the union, the portal has been shut down to allow the technical team to resolve glitches affecting payment and course registration.
“We understand that many of you are facing difficulties with payment and course registration on the portal, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused,” the union stated in a press release dated June 2, 2025.
The students union had previously written to the university management to bring these issues to their attention and demand an extension of the deadline. The temporary closure aims to ensure that the technical issues are fully addressed, providing students with a smooth experience when the portal reopens.
“This decision was made to ensure that the issues are fully addressed and that students can have a smooth experience when the portal reopens,” the union explained.
The union assured students that the closure is temporary and the portal will be reopened as soon as the technical issues are resolved. Once reopened, students will be able to make payments and register courses without difficulties.
“We want to assure you that this closure is temporary, and the portal will be reopened as soon as the technical issues are fully resolved,” the union stated.
The FUTA Students Union is working closely with the university management to expedite the process and will keep students updated on the progress.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter. We are working closely with the university management to ensure that the portal is reopened as soon as possible,” the union added.
In a show of commitment to transparency, the union will inform students when the portal will be reopened. “We will keep you updated on the progress and inform you when the portal will be reopened,” the union promised.
The press release was signed by Comr. Arifayan Ayomide (DREX), FUTASU PRO, with a phone number, 08133663865, provided for further communication.
This development comes against the backdrop of past protests by FUTA students over various issues, including a hike in tuition fees and the death of a colleague. In January 2024, the university management shut down the institution indefinitely and ordered the postponement of resumption for the 2023/2024 academic session due to student protests over fee hikes.
