Rep. Okpolupm Etteh, who represents Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has facilitated the construction of a six-classroom block and the establishment of a state-of-the-art ICT centre in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The landmark interventions were disclosed to newsmen in Eket on Tuesday by Obong Kingsley Etop, Director General of Etteh’s campaign team. He noted that the projects are in line with the lawmaker’s broader vision to expand access to quality education and digital empowerment across his constituency.
According to Obong Etop, the newly completed six-classroom block at Nduo Eduo High School, Okon, was executed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Project to address a pressing need for expanded learning space and create a more conducive academic environment for students.
Complementing the classroom infrastructure is a fully installed and equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Tools and Services Centre located at Community Secondary School, Odio. The ICT facility was delivered under the 2024 Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF)/Digital Nigeria Centre (DNC) initiative and is powered by solar energy.
“The ICT Centre is part of Hon. Etteh’s commitment to Governor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E Agenda, particularly in the area of education,” Etop said. “It will enhance teaching, learning, and research by promoting digital inclusion and ensuring public schools have access to broadband internet services.”
He further revealed that the digital facility comprises 40 modern computer systems, a multimedia projector, and a backup solar power system to guarantee uninterrupted access to digital tools and online resources.
Obong Etop stated that these interventions reflect Etteh’s unwavering commitment to human capital development through education. “Rep. Okpolupm Etteh will not relent in his efforts to ensure the youth of his constituency are given the tools and opportunities they need to compete and thrive in today’s digital economy.”
The projects have been widely welcomed by community members, school officials, and education stakeholders, many of whom see them as a timely response to infrastructure gaps and a catalyst for improved student performance.
Education observers have also noted that these developments align with national and global efforts to integrate ICT into learning, particularly in underserved communities where digital access remains limited.
With these new facilities in place, students in Eket and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from a more dynamic and technologically enriched academic experience.
The lawmaker’s office affirmed that similar projects are being considered for other parts of the constituency in a bid to promote inclusive educational growth and bridge the digital divide across Akwa Ibom State.
