The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has praised the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for approving the reconstruction of several critical road projects aimed at improving infrastructure and security across the state. The commendation came through a statement issued by the Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC) chairman, Gabriel Abiola, who described the development as a “giant stride” toward socioeconomic progress.
Governor Abiodun, during a recent State Executive Council meeting, announced the reconstruction of the 5.4km Ogbeere–Orita Mobi Junction Road in Ijebu East Local Government, the 3.2km Erinlu–Imosan Road in Odogbolu Local Government, and the 2.0km Imodi–Imosan Road in the same area. These projects, alongside 11 others already earmarked, aim to enhance internal connectivity, improve logistics, and enable safer, more efficient movement for residents.
NANS noted that improved road networks will directly benefit students, especially those commuting daily to campuses and educational centers across the state. The association emphasized that good roads play a vital role in reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs, and creating a more conducive environment for academic activities.
In the same breath, NANS commended the Abiodun administration for investing in ultra-modern security gadgets to reinforce the state’s security architecture. Gabriel Abiola remarked that the initiative would safeguard both infrastructural investments and the general population, including students, against rising threats of crime and vandalism.
Highlighting the broader impact of the governor’s infrastructure agenda, Abiola said the administration had demonstrated exceptional commitment to continuity by completing several abandoned road projects inherited from the past administration. This, he stressed, is a rare display of leadership that puts the people above politics.
He further acknowledged Governor Abiodun’s consistency in infrastructural upgrades since assuming office, noting that the rehabilitation of roads across the three senatorial districts reflects a balanced and inclusive governance strategy. Abiola stated that these improvements contribute positively to the economic landscape of the state by easing the movement of farm produce and linking rural communities with urban markets.
While praising the governor’s efforts, Abiola urged him to give priority to roads leading to campuses of higher institutions. He cited the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta as an example of a school still lacking a fully constructed access road, despite earlier promises from the state government. He appealed for urgent action in this regard, stressing that poor road access to campuses affects students’ welfare and safety.
The NANS chairman also emphasized that beyond basic infrastructure, such investments have direct implications on education. “When access roads are good, attendance improves, lateness reduces, and the learning environment becomes more accommodating,” he said, urging the governor to factor in student-centric routes in future projects.
In addition to roads, Abiola expressed appreciation for the administration’s contributions to the education sector, especially in funding, infrastructural rehabilitation of schools, and digital learning reforms. He called on the government to sustain its collaboration with student bodies to further improve learning outcomes and policy inclusiveness.
Abiola concluded by reaffirming the students’ support for the Dapo Abiodun-led administration. He said students across Ogun State remain committed to contributing positively to governance and would continue to advocate for initiatives that promote progress, access to education, and infrastructural development.
