The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members to commence a strike following the non-payment of their June 2025 salaries.
The directive was issued by the branch chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, in a message circulated to union members late Thursday, July 3.
According to the message, the action aligns with a resolution of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which authorises branches to initiate industrial action if salaries remain unpaid beyond the third day of a new month.
“Dear Comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 p.m. today, 3rd July 2025,” the message stated.
Prof. Molwus also referenced a resolution passed by the union’s congress on June 4, 2025, which reaffirmed the NEC directive.
He noted that the strike would take effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, 4th July 2025, urging members to ensure full compliance.
“The branch’s strike monitoring team will be activated to enforce compliance until further notice,” he added.
