The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conferred an Award of Honour on the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, highlighting his role in strengthening collaboration and promoting harmony among the Government, school management, and students across the State.
The award was presented during a courtesy visit by NANS executive members to the Ministry’s conference room. The delegation commended the Commissioner for his contributions to educational development and for maintaining peaceful relations within the academic community.
In his response, Hon. Olayiwola reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to partnering with NANS to address challenges such as cultism, drug abuse, and other vices in schools. He emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration is committed to educational investment and collaboration with stakeholders to promote academic excellence and foster strong character development.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede, described NANS as a vital bridge between students and the Government in preventing unnecessary protests. He stressed that sustainable progress in the education sector could only be achieved through stronger collaboration between school authorities, the academic community, local governments, and security agencies.
The NANS Oyo State Chairman, Comrade Tiamiyu Taiwo Ademola, applauded the Government for prioritizing students’ welfare and ensuring their involvement in governance. He noted that the association represents students at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, and announced that campaigns against drug abuse would be intensified in secondary schools from the next academic session.
Comrade Tiamiyu further urged the Government to address security challenges, improve student accommodation in some tertiary institutions, and enhance logistics support for the association’s operations.

Olusegun Olayiwola; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Bamidele Oyinloye; Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamiyu; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede; and Director of Higher and Continuing Education, Mr. Oluwole Adewale.
