Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the appointment of Dr. Olubamise Olufemi Moses as the new Provost of the State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti. The announcement follows what government officials described as a rigorous and transparent selection process conducted by the Governing Council of the institution.
Dr. Olubamise will formally assume duties on October 2, 2025, taking over from Dr. (Mrs.) C.O. Adebayo, whose tenure as Provost comes to an end on September 30. His appointment marks the beginning of a new era in the college’s leadership, aimed at consolidating reforms in academic standards, health education, and institutional development.
In addition to the Provost’s appointment, Governor Oyebanji also approved the selection of three other principal officers for the institution. Those appointed, upon the recommendation of the Governing Council, include Mr. Ayodeji Sunday Emmanuel as Registrar, Mr. Dada Olaniyi Kolade as Bursar, and Mr. Folorunso Femi Joseph as Librarian. These appointments, according to the Governor’s office, are part of broader efforts to strengthen the administrative framework of the college.
The new Provost, Dr. Olubamise, who hails from Ijan-Ekiti, was born on December 2, 1975. His academic journey reflects a strong dedication to health education and community development. He earned his Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Human Physiology from the University of Ilorin in 2001, laying the foundation for a career in health and biomedical sciences.
Keen on contributing to the academic sector, Dr. Olubamise pursued further studies at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 2012. This qualification enabled him to combine his scientific background with teaching expertise, thereby broadening his impact in health sciences education.
His academic progression continued with a Master of Science degree in Health Education in 2017, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Health Education in 2023, both from Ekiti State University. These advanced qualifications have been instrumental in positioning him as a scholar deeply committed to improving health awareness and medical education in Nigeria.
Dr. Olubamise’s professional career at the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti, began in 2006 when he was employed as a Scientific Officer and Tutor. His early years were marked by dedication to teaching and innovation in health sciences, building a reputation as a resourceful academic and administrator.
He was promoted to the rank of Lecturer II in 2010, steadily rising through the academic ladder. By 2024, he had attained the position of Chief Lecturer, a testament to his years of service, scholarly research, and leadership within the institution. Until his new appointment, he was serving as the Director of ICT at the college, where he spearheaded digital transformation projects to improve teaching and learning processes.
Beyond the walls of the institution, Dr. Olubamise has actively participated in several local and international conferences, presenting research and contributing to discourse on public health, health education, and biomedical innovations. His professional engagements underscore his recognition as a Fellow of the College of Biomedical Engineering.
The new Provost’s personal life mirrors his commitment to education and professional growth. He is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Deborah Olubamise, and their union is blessed with children. Together, they have supported academic and community initiatives that align with their shared values of service and excellence.
Governor Oyebanji, in his congratulatory message, urged Dr. Olubamise and the newly appointed principal officers to work with relevant stakeholders in the state’s education and health sectors. The Governor stressed that their leadership must transform the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti into a world-class institution that produces graduates who can compete globally.
The Governor also emphasized the need for collaboration between the college and healthcare institutions across Nigeria, highlighting that the training of highly skilled health professionals is crucial to strengthening the state’s healthcare delivery system.
