Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has hosted representatives of Sinoma Nigeria Limited, a Chinese firm based in Abuja, for discussions on the progress of a proposed joint research laboratory between the university, China Building Materials Academy (CBMA), and Sinoma, a subsidiary of China Building Materials Institute.
The agreement for the project was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed. The planned facility will focus on research into low-carbon building materials, new materials, and digitalization.
During the visit, Sinoma’s representatives, Mr. Sung Long Li Chung Peng and Mr. Jen Terhile, briefed the university’s seven-member expert team on developments so far.
Responding, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, reaffirmed the university’s readiness for collaboration. He noted that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement, Research and Innovation), Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, would oversee the project until completion.
Prof. Ahmed commended the expert team for their role in driving the initiative and encouraged them to continue representing the institution with distinction.
The seven-member team includes Prof. T.S. Ijimdiya (Civil Engineering), Prof. E.D. Paul (Chemistry), Prof. F. Asuke (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), Dr. T.K. Bello (Chemical Engineering), Dr. A. Usman (Civil Engineering), Dr. H.I. Bello (Glass and Silicate Technology), and Dr. S. Gambo (Building).
The collaboration is expected to strengthen ABU’s research capacity and foster innovation in sustainable building technologies.
