The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has formally announced the conclusion of its Post-UTME online screening exercise for the 2025/2026 academic session. According to the statement released by the institution, the assessment was conducted between September 1st and 4th, 2025, with a total of 20,464 candidates taking part in the process.
The management of the university expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the exercise but also lamented that some candidates engaged in acts that violated examination regulations. These breaches, it stressed, are now under investigation and will attract appropriate sanctions.
In keeping with its established zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice, UNILAG noted that any candidate found guilty will be declared ineligible for admission. This decision, the university explained, is necessary to preserve the credibility of its admissions process.
While addressing public concerns, the institution reaffirmed that its official communication channels remain open to candidates for all inquiries and clarifications. The school urged applicants to rely strictly on official platforms for updates, warning against misinformation being circulated online.
The university also disclosed that it possesses verifiable evidence of infractions committed during the screening exercise. According to the statement, such evidence is currently being reviewed carefully before final decisions are made on the eligibility of affected candidates.
The management further explained that the screening process was guided by clear instructions communicated to all candidates beforehand. These included strict warnings on prohibited actions, which formed part of the university’s strategy to maintain fairness and uphold standards.
UNILAG assured parents, guardians, and stakeholders that the review process is being handled with transparency and fairness. The institution emphasized that only those who are conclusively found guilty of malpractice will be penalized, while others will have their results processed without delay.
Beyond the immediate exercise, the university reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its admissions system. By holding candidates accountable for infractions, the institution seeks to ensure that only deserving students are admitted into its programs.
The notice also reflects the broader challenges Nigerian universities face in balancing technology-driven assessments with fairness to candidates. While the use of online screening is intended to minimize malpractice, institutions must continue refining their processes to prevent technical errors from unfairly penalizing students.
For UNILAG, however, the emphasis remains on discipline and credibility. The management stated that the integrity of its examinations cannot be compromised, as this forms the bedrock of academic excellence and trust in the institution’s degrees.
Candidates are therefore advised to remain patient as the review process unfolds. UNILAG has assured that final results and admission decisions will be released through the official student portal once investigations are concluded.
With this announcement, the University of Lagos has closed yet another chapter in its rigorous admissions process, demonstrating its resolve to combine technology, transparency, and accountability in selecting future students.
