Kano State has emerged as the top-performing state in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO), according to results released on Wednesday.
Announcing the outcome at a press briefing in Minna, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, said 68,159 candidates from Kano secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, the benchmark for university admission.
Lagos State followed closely with 67,007 candidates, representing 4.93% of the total, while Oyo State came third with 48,742 candidates meeting the same standard.
Overall, 1,358,339 candidates sat for the June/July 2025 examination, out of which 818,492 candidates (60.26%) obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
Wushishi further disclosed that 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) obtained five credits and above, irrespective of Mathematics and English, reflecting a notable performance margin.
He added that 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 685,514 males and 681,696 females. Of this number, 680,292 males and 678,047 females actually sat for the exams.
“The Council successfully released the results 54 days after the last written paper,” the registrar said, noting that the prompt release demonstrates NECO’s commitment to efficiency and transparency in Nigeria’s education sector.
The 2025 SSCE results will play a key role in determining university and tertiary institution admissions across the country.
