The Commissioner for Finance in Taraba State, Mrs. Sarah Enoch Adi, has been linked to an alleged impersonation scandal during the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examination.
In a video published by Sahara Reporters, exam supervisors confronted a woman identified as Leavitt Felix, who was reportedly caught sitting for the test under Adi’s name. According to records, the registered candidate was Commissioner Adi, but Felix admitted to writing on her behalf when questioned.
Supervisors highlighted inconsistencies in her account, including her earlier claim of working with the Ministry of Finance, which matched Adi’s official profile. Although Felix confessed to impersonating a candidate, she denied personally knowing the commissioner, claiming instead that she was hired by a man identified only as Joshua. She was unable to provide further details about him.
The officials warned that the case could be reported to the police if Felix failed to disclose full information, stressing the seriousness of exam malpractice.
This development adds to the controversies surrounding Commissioner Adi since her appointment. In August, civil servants in Taraba State called on Governor Agbu Kefas to dismiss both the Finance Commissioner and the Accountant General, Mr. Gauis Danjuma, over alleged irregularities in a biometric verification exercise that reportedly removed more than 7,000 workers including senior officials from the state’s payroll.
The June 2025 verification exercise, supervised by Adi and coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, classified the delisted staff as “ghost employees,” sparking widespread protests and a strike by state workers.
According to the Forum of Commissioners of Finance in Nigeria, Adi was born on April 9, 1973, in Wukari, Taraba State. She earned a Doctorate in Accounting from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2023, and a Master’s in Banking and Finance from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2011. She also holds a Higher National Diploma and National Diploma in Accountancy from Plateau State Polytechnic, as well as a Diploma in Tax Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic.
ICAN has not yet issued an official statement on the impersonation incident, but examination supervisors have indicated that the matter may be escalated to law enforcement authorities.
