The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced that its 40th Convocation Ceremonies will take place from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the institution’s main campus. The ceremonies will feature the award of First and Higher Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates, and the presentation of prizes to outstanding students.
According to a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, M.A. Alfanla, the week-long activities will include religious services, a convocation lecture, cultural performances, commissioning of projects, and the graduation of thousands of students across various faculties.

Friday, Oct. 17: Special Jum’at Service at the Unilorin Central Mosque (1:30 p.m.)
Sunday, Oct. 19: Interdenominational Service at Chapel of the Light (9:00 a.m.)
Monday, Oct. 20: Vice-Chancellor’s Press Briefing (10:00 a.m.) and Academic Procession Rehearsal (3:00 p.m.)
Tuesday, Oct. 21: Convocation Play “Joromi” by Steve James, choreographed by Felix Akinsipe, at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre (two showings: 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m.)
Wednesday, Oct. 22: Convocation Lecture titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World” to be delivered by Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, CON, former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing (9:00 a.m., University Auditorium). A cocktail will follow at the Multipurpose Hall (12:30 p.m.).
Wednesday, Oct. 22 (Convocation Day I): Graduation of students in four-year programmes and Diplomas from the Faculties of Arts, Education, Basic Medical Sciences, Communication & Information Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences (9:00 a.m.).
Thursday, Oct. 23 (Convocation Day II): Graduation for five- and six-year programmes and Postgraduate Degrees covering Agriculture, Engineering & Technology, Clinical Sciences, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, and others. The day will also feature commissioning of projects (1:30 p.m.) and a Convocation Luncheon with Staff Merit Awards (4:00 p.m.).
Friday, Oct. 24: Special Jum’at Service at the Unilorin Central Mosque (1:30 p.m.).
Sunday, Oct. 26: Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy (9:00 a.m.).
Instructions to Graduands
The University reminded graduands of the following key requirements:
The 2024/2025 Academic Session ran from December 14, 2024, to September 15, 2025. Eligible graduands should confirm their names on the official graduation list via the university’s website: www.unilorin.edu.ng.
Mandatory convocation charges include ₦20,000 for undergraduate and postgraduate graduands, covering transcripts, certificates, gown hire, and related items, while Ph.D. graduands will pay ₦10,000 for certificates and must purchase academic gowns.
Collection of gowns, order of proceedings, and related materials will begin from Monday, October 20, 2025, at respective faculties and the Postgraduate School. Certificates will only be issued after gowns are returned.
All graduands are required to attend the Academic Procession in full academic attire and be formally dressed in either complete English wear (suit and tie for men; skirt suit/blouse for women) or national dress.
Academic gowns must be returned by Monday, October 27, 2025, to avoid a late fine of ₦5,000 per day.
Payments are to be made online via the UNILORIN Convocation Portal using MasterCard or Visa ATM cards.
Additionally, graduands are to complete the University of Ilorin Alumni Association Google Form, available on the institution’s website, as part of compliance with convocation requirements.
The University described the milestone as a major celebration of academic excellence and an opportunity to showcase the institution’s steady growth as one of Nigeria’s leading higher education centres.
