The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting irregularities in the ongoing process to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the university management described the publications as attempts to malign the character of one of the candidates under consideration, warning that such actions could undermine the credibility of the selection process.
“The appointment process is being handled by the Governing Council of the University with strict adherence to due process, transparency and in line with the relevant regulatory guidelines,” the statement read.
NOUN management reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and integrity, urging staff, students, and the public to disregard unofficial narratives and allow the council to conclude its assignment without distractions or interference.
It further noted that spreading unverified claims could damage both the integrity of the process and the image of the institution.
“The Management remains resolute in its commitment to protecting the sanctity of the institution and ensuring that the best outcomes are achieved in the overall interest of NOUN,” the statement concluded.
