The Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, honoured 43 of its alumni who graduated with First-Class honours at the 2024 Nigerian Law School Bar Examinations, marking one of the highest numbers recorded by a single university in the country.
The celebration, held at the Faculty Boardroom, drew a distinguished audience of honorees, faculty members, students, and notable alumni, including the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Professor Bola Oboh, commended the Faculty of Law’s consistency in academic excellence. She described the achievement as a reaffirmation of UNILAG’s tradition of producing outstanding legal minds and urged the graduates to uphold the highest ideals of integrity, professionalism, and service to society.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, expressed pride in the graduates’ “stellar performance,” which he said reflected the rigorous academic standards of the Faculty. He also highlighted recent milestones, including a strategic partnership with the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom.
In goodwill messages, Dr. Oduwole and Prof. Oyewo challenged the new lawyers to maintain professionalism and serve as loyal ambassadors of UNILAG. The high point of the ceremony was the formal recognition of the 43 honorees, each of whom received a commemorative medal and congratulatory handshake from the dignitaries.
The event also provided a platform for the University of Lagos Alumni Association to unveil new initiatives. Its President, Engr. Ife Oyedele, FNSE, announced the launch of the UNILAG Alumni App, a digital platform designed to connect graduates across generations while fostering mentorship and celebrating achievements. He further revealed plans for a modern 1,800-bed hostel to improve student welfare and infrastructure.
Oyedele encouraged the young lawyers to actively engage with the alumni association, citing global examples where strong alumni networks have significantly advanced institutional growth.
The celebration not only showcased UNILAG’s commitment to academic excellence but also reflected its drive toward innovation, with the alumni community positioning itself as a key partner in the university’s future development.
