As Nigeria joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening teacher collaboration and support systems nationwide.
Speaking at a symposium held in Abuja to mark the occasion, the minister, who appeared alongside the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, emphasised the critical role teachers play in shaping both the future of Nigerian children and the nation’s overall development.
The event, themed Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession, brought together key stakeholders from across the education sector to reflect on policy reforms and practical strategies aimed at repositioning the teaching profession.
In her keynote address, Ahmad presented a paper on The Role of Leadership and Policy in Sustaining Teacher Collaboration, highlighting the Federal Ministry of Education’s ongoing efforts to build professional learning communities, strengthen teacher networks and expand access to digital platforms that promote experience sharing and continuous professional growth among educators.
“This symposium has provided an opportunity to reflect on current practices and make actionable recommendations that will guide the future of our education reforms,” she said.
“When teachers thrive through collaboration, learners succeed and our nation prospers. That is why I am calling on unions, development partners, civil society organisations and parents to rally behind our teachers and provide the support they need to excel.”
The symposium featured contributions from education experts, policymakers and development partners, all advocating for a more inclusive, well-supported teaching profession that embraces innovation and collective responsibility.
