The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has held a high-level stakeholders’ meeting to address pressing challenges in the state’s education sector and outline strategic steps toward sustainable improvement in teaching and learning outcomes.
The meeting brought together key education officials, including Directors from the Ministry, Heads of Parastatals, Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), Education Secretaries, and Heads of Primary and Secondary Schools across the state.
In his welcome address, the Director of Administration, Abubakar Umar Salame, commended participants for their commitment and stressed the importance of collaboration in achieving the state’s education goals.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, gave a detailed presentation on the current state of education in Sokoto. He identified critical issues hindering effective service delivery and unveiled strategic plans and policy directions aimed at revitalizing basic and secondary education across the state.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, urged education managers to remain professional and dedicated in their duties. He emphasized the need to depoliticize staff postings within the education sector to promote merit-based decisions and enhance efficiency.
A presentation on the New Curriculum Implementation and Review for both Basic and Senior Secondary levels was delivered by Abdullahi Altine Durbawa, who underscored the need to align curriculum content with modern educational standards and national development priorities.
The Component Lead for the AGILE project, Mamuda Galadima, also spoke on the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) initiative, explaining its objectives, implementation process, and expected impact on improving school enrollment and retention, particularly among vulnerable children and girls.
In his contribution, the President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Sokoto State Chapter, Comrade Moh’d Ikililu, offered practical recommendations for strengthening school management, teacher motivation, and accountability mechanisms in the education system.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment from all stakeholders to work collaboratively toward transforming Sokoto State’s education sector, ensuring equitable access, quality learning outcomes, and long-term sustainability.
