From Oyi to Anambra East, the United Nations Youth Association of Nigeria (UNYA-NG) has completed the first phase of its “Reading for Change” campaign, aimed at promoting literacy, discipline, and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through a statewide school outreach.
The month-long campaign, organized by the Anambra State Chapter of UNYA-NG, concluded with a visit to Development Primary School, Abata-Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area.
Phase 1 of the Reading Campaign focused on encouraging the love for reading and improving literacy among pupils in four Local Government Areas of the state, Oyi, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, and Anambra East.
The campaign began on September 9, 2025, at Royal Destined International School, Oyi LGA, where students were urged to embrace reading as a tool for personal and intellectual growth. Fifty exercise books and biros were distributed, and a special prize was awarded to the first student to arrive at school, to promote punctuality and discipline.
On September 19, the team visited St. Mark’s Standard Group of Schools, Onitsha North LGA, to reinforce the message of daily reading. Another set of 50 exercise books and writing materials was distributed.
By September 26, the campaign had reached Faith Foundation International Schools, Fegge, Onitsha South LGA, where students were encouraged to make reading a daily habit and participate actively in class. The UNYA-NG team distributed 30 exercise books, biros, and rulers to learners.
The final stop was at Development Primary School, Abata-Nsugbe, Anambra East LGA, on October 9, 2025. Pupils were encouraged to develop a reading culture, while 100 exercise books, 50 biros, and 50 pencils were distributed.
Speaking on the initiative, the Anambra State Coordinator of UNYA-NG, Eminent Amb. (Dr.) Chude Arinze Timothy (Aristotle), expressed gratitude to his executive members, the state team, and the national leadership led by Amb. (Dr.) Eze Ihechukwumere Ezekiel for their support.
He emphasized that through consistent literacy advocacy, UNYA-NG is shaping a generation that values knowledge, discipline, and excellence, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4.
