The 1980–1985 set of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association, has renovated a dilapidated two-block dormitory at their alma mater as part of activities marking their 40th anniversary homecoming celebration. The gesture, which cost several millions of naira, underscores the group’s continued commitment to giving back to the institution that helped shape their formative years.
The week-long global reunion, themed “Reconnect, Reunite, Roister and Reciprocate,” will feature a rich lineup of events including a road show, medical outreach, career talks, novelty football match, award presentations, and the official commissioning of the renovated dormitory. The celebration is expected to bring together members of the 1980/85 set from across Nigeria and the diaspora, rekindling old friendships while reaffirming their shared legacy.
Speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the Chairman of the 1980/85 set, Prince Adejumoke Agunbiade, said the alumni’s intervention reflects their passion for uplifting the school’s learning and living environment. He explained that the renovated dormitory had long been in deplorable condition before the alumni stepped in to restore it to modern standards suitable for student accommodation.
Agunbiade further revealed that beyond physical infrastructure, the alumni had also hired private teachers to help prepare students for external examinations. According to him, this educational intervention produced outstanding academic outcomes, validating the association’s investment in the school’s human capital. “Our effort is not just about structures; it’s about nurturing excellence and preparing the next generation to thrive,” he stated.
He added that the alumni remain steadfast in their mission to support Christ’s School through various initiatives including scholarships, mentorship programmes, and capacity-building projects. “Our memorable celebration is designed to capture the essence and testament of the enduring bonds forged within the walls of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti,” he said. “It is a great opportunity to reconnect and rekindle friendships and networks, celebrate the values of education that shaped our lives, and inspire current students and younger alumni through our shared experiences.”
Prince Agunbiade assured that the old students would continue to uphold the school’s founding values of discipline, excellence, and Christian character, which have remained its hallmark for decades. He reaffirmed the alumni’s commitment to partnering with the school management in driving future development projects that would benefit generations of students to come.
In his remarks, the Principal of Christ’s School, Mr. Ebenezer Oluwarotimi, commended the 1980/85 alumni for their continuous support and generosity. He said their interventions, ranging from dormitory and classroom renovations to other infrastructural upgrades, had transformed the school’s outlook and improved the learning atmosphere for both students and teachers.
Oluwarotimi described the reunion as not only a celebration of nostalgia but also a reflection of enduring commitment and shared responsibility among the old students. He noted that the school, under his leadership, has continued to record remarkable achievements academically, morally, and in sports, sustaining its legacy as one of the foremost educational institutions in Ekiti State.
“I want to thank you for what you have done. You have done more than what Napoleon could do,” the Principal remarked with gratitude. “Christ’s School today remains number one in academics, sports, and Christ-likeness.”
The anniversary celebration, which continues throughout the week, is expected to strengthen the alumni network, inspire current students, and further position Christ’s School as a model of excellence and community-driven educational development in Nigeria.
