The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, embarked on a strategic study visit to Poland. The visit focused on examining innovative academic and research infrastructures that can be adapted to strengthen NSUK’s academic and developmental goals.
As part of her working tour, Professor Liman visited a joint university library and an Environmental Engineering Laboratory, two institutions that embody excellence in academic collaboration and innovation. The visits formed a key component of NSUK’s broader commitment to sustaining its strong position in the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) ranking, particularly in relation to Goal 4, which emphasizes quality education for all.
During the tour, Professor Liman explored the unique joint library model managed collaboratively by the University of Silesia and the University of Economics, both located in Katowice, Poland. The facility, which integrates academic resources and study spaces across institutions, serves as an international model for promoting shared knowledge, resource efficiency, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, such a model offers valuable lessons for Nigerian universities seeking to maximize resources and promote a more inclusive academic environment. She noted that inter-university linkages and joint project initiatives could significantly improve access to research materials and enhance learning outcomes across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“The joint-library model demonstrates how collaboration, rather than competition, can drive quality education,” Professor Liman stated. “It’s a system that encourages shared knowledge, innovation, and efficiency a model that can work in our universities if properly adapted and supported.”
Her visit to the University of Zielona Gora further reinforced this commitment to academic innovation and sustainability. At the institution, Professor Liman toured the Environmental Engineering Laboratory, a cutting-edge research facility established through a strong partnership between academia and industry.
The laboratory is renowned for its applied research on environmental sustainability, offering practical solutions to climate and pollution challenges while promoting student participation in problem-solving projects. Professor Liman praised the university’s model for integrating theory with practice, noting that such collaborations are vital for advancing Nigeria’s own environmental research capacity.
“The collaboration between universities and industries in Poland is impressive,” she observed. “It shows how academic research can directly influence industrial progress and community development. This is a vision NSUK is determined to pursue.”
These engagements underscore Professor Liman’s strategic vision to transform Nasarawa State University into a leading research-driven institution in Nigeria. Under her leadership, NSUK continues to align its programs and partnerships with global standards that emphasize innovation, sustainability, and community impact.
The Vice-Chancellor’s visit also highlights her broader agenda of repositioning NSUK to compete globally through research excellence, enhanced reading culture, and the establishment of knowledge-driven infrastructures that promote intellectual growth. Her emphasis on collaboration reflects a progressive approach to higher education reform in Nigeria.
Members of the NSUK community have described the visit as both timely and visionary, noting that it will open new pathways for international collaborations, academic exchanges, and research funding opportunities. The lessons drawn from Poland are expected to inform NSUK’s future projects in library development, technology-driven learning, and research innovation.
In line with the University’s mission, Professor Liman’s initiative reaffirms the administration’s dedication to building a knowledge-centered environment where research thrives and students are empowered to become global change-makers. Her efforts signal a renewed phase of academic expansion, cross-border cooperation, and institutional excellence at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
As NSUK continues to pursue its SDG-aligned objectives, the lessons from the Polish experience are poised to shape policies that will deepen the university’s commitment to quality education, sustainable research practices, and the continuous development of Nigeria’s higher education system.
