The Christ School Alumni Association, 1980/1985 Set, has once again demonstrated its enduring love and loyalty to its alma mater through the donation of a fully remodeled dormitory valued at N35 million. The gesture, which formed the highlight of the Set’s week-long 40th Homecoming Anniversary celebration, marked a significant contribution to the development of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Set Chairman, Prince Adejumoke Agunbiade, and representatives of the Global National Executive of the Alumni Association. The newly renovated dormitory was officially handed over to the Principal of Christ School, Venerable Oso Oluwarotimi, in a colourful event that attracted staff, students, and alumni members from across the nation.
Representing the Global National President of the Christ School Alumni Association, Mr. Lawal Kunle Jinadu, the National Secretary-General, Honourable Jide Egunjobi, commended the 80/85 Set for their dedication and commitment to the school’s progress. He described the project as “a landmark achievement” and a testament to the strong sense of belonging that Christ School instills in its students.
Mr. Jinadu, in his remarks, expressed his excitement over the continued contributions of the school’s alumni to the institution’s development. He noted that the selfless efforts of the 80/85 Set would serve as a motivation for other sets to emulate, adding that Christ School has maintained its reputation as one of the foremost educational institutions in Nigeria.
Congratulating the 80/85 Set on their 40th year of graduation, Mr. Jinadu emphasized that their commitment to excellence and philanthropy exemplifies the true spirit of Christ School. According to him, the legacy of giving back to one’s alma mater is a culture worth preserving for future generations.
In his address, the Set Chairman, Prince Adejumoke Agunbiade, expressed deep appreciation to members of his Set for their collective sacrifice and unwavering support. He disclosed that the renovation and remodeling of the dormitory, alongside other anniversary activities, cost several millions of naira, all funded by voluntary contributions from members.
Prince Agunbiade described the project as one that holds sentimental value for the 80/85 Set, saying, “This dormitory is not just a building; it represents our shared memories, friendship, and the values we imbibed during our years in Christ School. We are proud to give back to the institution that shaped our lives.”
Later that evening, a gala night and award ceremony were held at the Adetiloye Hall of Fountain Hotel, Basiri, Ado-Ekiti. The event featured entertainment, fine dining, and the presentation of awards to deserving individuals who have contributed immensely to the success of the Alumni Association. Among the honorees were Mr. Lawal Kunle Jinadu, who received a Presidential Award of Excellence, Honourable Jide Egunjobi, and Prince Adejumoke Agunbiade.
Other recipients included past Set Chairmen, Executive Committee members, and notable couples such as Dr. Oluwole and Mrs. Mojisola Bamidele Oluwole, who were recognized for their dedication and service to the association. The ceremony provided an opportunity for members to celebrate their achievements and strengthen the bond that has united them for decades.
As part of the week-long anniversary, the Set members paid a royal visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, CON, JP. They also toured the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, engaging in fellowship and sightseeing activities designed to promote unity and relaxation among members.
During the celebration, the 80/85 Set also organized a career talk session for current students of Christ School, where they shared insights on discipline, excellence, and leadership. In addition, the Set donated a new public address system to the school to enhance communication during official events and assemblies.
The grand finale of the anniversary took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with a thanksgiving service at the Lord’s Chapel within the school compound. The service, presided over by the Lord Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, was filled with praise, gratitude, and prayers for continued blessings upon the alumni and the school.
Bishop Ajayi lauded the Global Alumni Association and various class sets for their commitment to sustaining Christ School’s legacy of excellence. He prayed for divine protection, wisdom, and prosperity for all members of the alumni who continue to contribute to the school’s progress.
The thanksgiving service also featured participation from other graduating Sets marking milestone anniversaries, including the 1971/75 Set (50th anniversary) and the 1975/80 Set (45th anniversary). Distinguished personalities such as the former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, and Ambassador Dr. (Mrs.) Eniola Ajayi were among the notable alumni in attendance.
The event concluded with the symbolic handover of the homecoming baton to the 1981/1986 Set, who are expected to host the 2026 Global Homecoming Anniversary. With the successful completion of this year’s programme, the 80/85 Set has once again etched its name in the history of Christ School as a model of unity, philanthropy, and enduring legacy.
