The management and staff of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo, have commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the official transfer of the hospital’s Akure Complex to the Federal Government for conversion into the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.
The handover of the UNIMEDTH Akure Complex was approved on Thursday, September 11, 2025, by the Ondo State Executive Council, marking a major milestone in the state’s healthcare development efforts.
In a statement signed by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Michael Olumide Gbala, the hospital described the decision as a significant step in advancing quality healthcare and social welfare delivery across Ondo State.
Dr. Gbala said the development aligns with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE Agenda, which prioritises accessible healthcare services and robust social welfare programmes aimed at improving the living standards of residents.
He lauded the governor for his consistent support for UNIMEDTH and his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system, noting that the gesture would further expand access to medical education, training, and research.
The statement also congratulated the management team of the newly established FUTA Teaching Hospital, led by Professor Olusegun Ojo, and wished them success in their operations.
Dr. Gbala assured that UNIMEDTH and FUTA Teaching Hospital would continue to collaborate in promoting shared values, advancing medical research, and enhancing healthcare delivery across Ondo State.
