The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has announced that academic activities will officially commence at its newly completed Ilesha-Baruba Campus on Monday, November 3, 2025, marking a new phase in the institution’s commitment to decentralizing higher education and expanding access to learning in Kwara North.
According to the management, the Ilesha-Baruba Campus will serve as the home of the Faculty of Agriculture, accommodating students and staff in various agricultural disciplines. The establishment of this campus aligns with the University’s vision of creating specialized learning centers to promote research, innovation, and regional development.
A total of 289 students drawn from 200, 300, and 500 levels across the Departments of Animal Production, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Crop Production have been assigned to the new campus for the 2025/2026 academic session. These students will be the first cohort to commence full academic operations at the facility.
The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, described the development as a landmark achievement in the University’s strategic expansion plan, designed to enhance access to quality higher education and promote agricultural transformation across the state. He emphasized that the campus will serve as a model for sustainable agricultural learning and community-based development.
“The Ilesha-Baruba Campus represents more than just a physical expansion; it is a symbol of our determination to bridge educational gaps, promote food security through research, and build a generation of agripreneurs,” the Vice-Chancellor stated. “We are proud to see this vision coming to fruition.”
The new campus boasts modern lecture theatres, standard laboratories, student hostels, administrative offices, and staff quarters, all constructed to meet contemporary academic and environmental standards. It also features ICT-equipped classrooms and experimental farms to enhance practical training in agricultural sciences.
In addition, the University disclosed that adequate security, medical, and welfare services have been put in place to ensure the safety and comfort of both students and staff. A comprehensive orientation exercise has also been scheduled to help the pioneer students integrate smoothly into their new learning environment.
Community leaders in Ilesha-Baruba have lauded KWASU for citing the campus in their region, noting that it will boost local economic activities, increase access to education, and open new opportunities for youth empowerment. They pledged full support and cooperation to the institution as academic operations commence.
The opening of the campus is expected to strengthen KWASU’s role as a leading institution in applied agricultural research and rural development, positioning Kwara State as a hub for innovative agricultural solutions in Nigeria.
With the November 3rd resumption date approaching, anticipation continues to build among staff, students, and residents, as the Ilesha-Baruba Campus prepares to welcome its first set of undergraduates ushering in a new era of academic excellence and sustainable agricultural growth in Kwara State.
