Jos, Plateau State – In a thrilling finale, the FUOYE Queens have emerged as the new champions of the NUGA female football tournament, defeating defending champions UNILAG 2-1 in a closely contested match.
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Queens, who had been on a mission since the semi-finals, were determined to bring home the coveted trophy. Their path to the final was paved with controversy, however, as they had initially lost to the host University of Jos (UNIJOS) Queens 2-1 in the semi-finals.
But the FUOYE sports team was not having it, lodging a complaint against UNIJOS for allegedly fielding ineligible players. The team requested that all UNIJOS players be re-accredited, and after a thorough investigation, the tournament organizers disqualified UNIJOS from the competition, paving the way for FUOYE to face UNILAG in the final.

The FUOYE Queens did not waste the opportunity, coming out strong and taking an early lead through a stunning goal from their star striker. UNILAG fought back, but the FUOYE defense held firm, and they managed to extend their lead to 2-0 before UNILAG pulled one back in the dying minutes.
However, it was too little, too late for the defending champions, as the FUOYE Queens held on to their 2-1 lead to claim the NUGA female football title. The team was ecstatic on the pitch, and their supporters were over the moon with joy.
Speaking with The Nigeria Education News, the FUOYE Sports Director, Dr. Adewale Adeyemi, expressed his team’s delight at the historic win. “We are thrilled to have won the championship,” he said. “Our girls gave it their all, and it paid off in the end. We’re proud of them, and we hope this victory will inspire more young girls to take up football.”
The coach of the FUOYE Queens, Coach Olusola Ogundele, was equally elated, praising her team’s determination and resilience. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we believed in ourselves,” she said. “Our girls worked hard, and it showed on the pitch. We’re champions, and we’re going to enjoy this moment!”
The players were also overjoyed, with team captain, Glory Odey, dedicating the win to her teammates and supporters. “This is for all of us, for our university, and for Nigerian football,” she said. “We’re proud to be champions, and we hope to inspire more young girls to take up the sport.”
The Nigeria Education News team congratulates the FUOYE Queens on their historic win and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
