The 2025 volleyball events at the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) came to a close on Friday, November 14, at the University of Jos Naraguta Campus, with Taraba State University (TSU) and Kaduna State University (KASU) emerging as the standout performers in the beach volleyball categories.
The day was marked by mixed fortunes for TSU after the university’s male beach volleyball team crashed out of the tournament following their absence from a scheduled semifinal fixture, a setback linked to a coordination issue involving the games contingent responsible for managing both indoor and beach volleyball schedules.
Despite that setback, TSU delivered one of the strongest performances in the women’s category, securing gold ahead of a competitive field.
The distribution of medals across the male and female categories revealed a competitive balance among northern universities, with TSU, KASU, KWASU, and ATBU all making podium appearances.
In the female beach volleyball category, TSU claimed gold, confirming their dominance. The team’s consistency throughout the tournament earned them the top spot, while KASU took silver, and Kwara State University (KWASU) secured bronze, reflecting a tight contest among the leading teams.
In the male category, KASU emerged as the top performers, taking gold after a strong run throughout the tournament. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) clinched silver, while KWASU once again took bronze, making it their second podium finish of the competition.
The medal patterns show KWASU as one of the most consistent performers across both categories, while KASU demonstrated depth, winning medals in both men’s and women’s events.
