Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has pledged the state government’s full support to the newly appointed management team of the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma, as the institution commences operations.
The governor gave the assurance while receiving the pioneer management team, led by the Provost, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Dutse.
Governor Namadi described the team’s appointment as both historic and consequential, noting the challenges and significance of setting up a new federal institution. He expressed confidence in the calibre of the management team and their ability to steer the college toward a successful takeoff.
“Establishing a new institution is not an effortless task. You are now part of history. If the college succeeds, your names will be remembered positively; if it fails, the same applies. But I am confident, given the calibre of the team, that the college is starting on the right footing,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bills that established the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma, and the Federal College of Education, Birnin Kudu. He also disclosed that the state is on course to secure a third federal institution following discussions with the president.
“We are greatly indebted to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for approving both colleges. And let me inform you, Provost: we are working on securing a third federal institution for Jigawa. I have discussed it with the president, and Insha’Allah, it will come to fruition,” he said.
Governor Namadi further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the college’s early operations.
“As a government, we will do everything possible to ensure the successful takeoff of the college. You have our full support. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Gwaram leading this institution—an experienced agriculturist, a seasoned administrator, and a committed son of Jigawa.”
He also commended the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Education, and Hon. Fulata, member representing Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency, for their contributions to the establishment of the new federal institutions. He praised both the Provost and the Commissioner for Higher Education for their persistent efforts, noting that “the hard work has paid off.”
Earlier, the Provost, Dr. Gwaram, thanked the state government for its support and stated that the college is ready to commence academic and administrative activities.
“This college is to be a specialized institution where modern agricultural techniques will be taught. We intend to educate our farmers and also bring other relevant agencies into Jigawa,” he said.
Gwaram added that the management is already engaging with regulatory bodies, including the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), to ensure a smooth takeoff.
He acknowledged the extensive engagements with federal agencies and other stakeholders leading to the approval of the college and assured the governor of the team’s commitment to delivering tangible results.
