The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (Go-Health) has commissioned a fully digitalised health management system at the Gombe State University (GSU) Clinic, marking the first phase of a statewide rollout of modernised healthcare services.
The system was unveiled on Thursday by the Executive Secretary of Go-Health, Dr. Abubakar Musa, who described the initiative as a major leap toward efficient, transparent and technology-driven healthcare delivery for students.
During a live demonstration of the new platform, Dr. Musa announced that the digitalisation programme would first be tested at the GSU Clinic before being expanded to other Go-Health centres across the state.
“With this system, students can now book medical appointments remotely from their hostels or lecture halls. They no longer need to visit the clinic physically before securing a consultation,” he said.
He added that the digital platform will also automate drug inventory, ensuring that essential medications remain available and eliminating delays caused by manual record-keeping.
As part of the integration, Go-Health supplied new equipment to the clinic, including waiting chairs, laptops, Android tablets, a blood bank, drug storage facilities, and large digital screens for patient information and clinical operations.
Responding to the development, GSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, expressed satisfaction with the pace of the partnership. He noted that the University anticipated significant improvements when it signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Go-Health.
“I am pleased that the long-standing challenges at our clinic are being addressed. We appreciate Go-Health for its commitment and thank His Excellency, the Governor of Gombe State, for the foresight behind this initiative,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that the University remains committed to sustaining the collaboration.
So far, over 18,000 students have been enrolled under the GSU Student Contributory Health Scheme and are set to benefit from the upgraded services.
The commissioning signals a major milestone in the modernisation of healthcare delivery in Gombe State and underscores Go-Health’s broader vision of expanding access to quality health services across the state.
