The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has formally received its newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, CFR (Marusan Katsina), during its 56th meeting held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The visit marked a significant milestone in the university’s drive toward academic excellence and institutional growth. Senator Sirika, who was received by the Management Committee and Council members, pledged his commitment to work diligently with all stakeholders to advance the university. He also met with the leadership of the institution’s four in-house unions, assuring them of cooperation, support, and shared dedication to UMYU’s progress.
During the meeting, the Governing Council approved major decisions, including the promotion of 133 academic staff effective October 1, 2025. The breakdown includes:
– 19 promoted to Professor,
– 20 promoted to Reader,
– 31 elevated to Senior Lecturer,
– 17 promoted to Lecturer I,
– 26 promoted to Lecturer II, and
– 36 staff converted and upgraded to higher professional cadres.
The Council also approved a 100% upward wage review for the university’s cleaners, a decision aimed at improving welfare and boosting productivity.
Council members expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, commending him for effectively steering the institution’s affairs.
