The Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has organised a complimentary capacity-building workshop for secondary school principals within Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas, aimed at enhancing school management and productivity.
The workshop, themed ‘Enhancing Principal Management Skills for Productivity’, was held at the Institute’s conference room on Thursday.
A total of 14 principals, representing a mix of public and private secondary schools in the host communities, participated in the training.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Institute, Prof. A. M. Jumare, stated that the initiative was designed to fulfill one of the Institute’s core mandates: providing training and engaging in community service to uplift the standard of education in its immediate environment.

According to Prof. Jumare, the training was specifically curated to improve the managerial skills of the principals, ensuring they are better equipped to foster greater productivity within their respective schools.
Focus on Conflict Resolution and Supervision The workshop sessions focused on three critical objectives:
Refining principals’ competencies in conflict resolution within the school environment.
Improving the efficacy of school record-keeping practices.
Expanding expertise in internal school supervision.
During the technical sessions, Prof. Jumare delivered a paper titled ‘Conflict Management’, while Prof. Aminu Sambo drilled the participants on ‘School Management Records’. Dr. Usman Mohammed also delivered a lecture on ‘Internal School Supervision’.
The high point of the event was the presentation of certificates of attendance to the participants.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Jumare encouraged the participating principals to maintain a close relationship with the University, urging them to seek professional assistance from the Institute whenever necessary to address challenges in their schools.
