The panel, which has been given two weeks to submit its findings, is chaired by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman. Other members of the committee are the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, and the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr Mrs Mercy Olufunke Shittu.
According to the terms of reference, the committee is to examine both the remote and immediate causes of the protest and how the situation was handled, recommend measures to prevent a recurrence, and make additional recommendations aimed at the growth and stability of the institution. The panel is also expected to engage relevant stakeholders as part of its assignment.
In a related development, Governor AbdulRazaq has directed the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, to step aside from his position with immediate effect pending the outcome of the investigation. The most senior Deputy Rector has been directed to take over the administration of the institution in an acting capacity.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
The protest followed students’ objections to the temporary use of the Polytechnic as an orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a development that led to the closure of the institution and heightened concerns over campus safety, student welfare and administrative decision-making.
