The competition, which was held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Kwara State University, Malete, featured students from Lens Polytechnic Offa, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State University (KWASU), and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.
Lens Polytechnic was represented in the quiz segment by Faloseyi Blessing, Ojerinde Anuoluwapo, and Saliu Idris, while Olarewaju Iyanuoluwa and Oluwayomi Timileyin participated in the debate category, where they emerged as second runners-up.
The students were coordinated by Mr Dere Abiodun, a lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science, Lens Polytechnic Offa.
Speaking after the competition, Faloseyi Blessing, one of the quiz participants, expressed excitement over the victory, describing the experience as memorable.
“It is a great opportunity to represent my institution. We keep learning every day as knowledge managers and information architects. We are proud of our institution, and bringing honour to the school remains our joy,” she said.
Reacting to the students’ performance, the Rector of Lens Polytechnic Offa, Dr B. Aliyu, commended them for their outstanding showing, noting that the institution remains committed to nurturing students through knowledge, skills, and ethics for national development.
Also speaking, the proprietor of the polytechnic, Dr Yisa Azeez, FCA, praised the organisers for creating a platform that promotes academic excellence and intellectual competition, while commending the Department of Library and Information Science for making the institution proud.
Similarly, the Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Mr Sheriff Banuso, appreciated the management of Lens Polytechnic for providing a conducive teaching and learning environment. He added that the department remains committed to continuous learning and the development of future library and information professionals.
The organisers said the quiz and debate competition was designed to promote academic excellence and encourage a strong reading and research culture among students of tertiary institutions in Kwara State.
