The Lagos State University Muslim Alumni has awarded scholarships worth a total of ₦6.9 million to 60 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Lagos State University as part of its 2025 annual scholarship programme.
The awards were announced at the Lagos State University Muslim Alumni 2025 Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony held at the Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos.
The event drew notable figures from government, academia, and the Muslim community, including the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, who delivered the keynote address, and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Lagos State University Muslim Alumni, Dr Abdul-Azeez Anjorin, described the scholarship initiative as the fulfilment of a long-standing commitment to give back to the university that shaped many of its members. He reflected on how scholarships both local and international played a crucial role in his own academic journey and emphasised the need to extend similar opportunities to deserving students.

Dr Anjorin expressed appreciation to members of the alumni body and its partners whose contributions made the programme possible. He acknowledged the support of public office holders, community leaders, security officials, and Islamic scholars who have consistently supported the association’s educational interventions.
According to the Lagos State University Muslim Alumni, the 60 beneficiaries were selected from over 500 applicants through a transparent and competitive screening process. The beneficiaries span various faculties, including Arts, Education, Law, Medicine, Science, and Social Sciences, and comprise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree levels. The scheme also extended support to international postgraduate students of the university.
The association explained that the selection process prioritised academic excellence and demonstrated financial need. Beneficiaries included students with outstanding academic records, doctoral candidates with distinctions at the Master’s level, Master’s degree holders with First Class honours, as well as indigent students and orphans who showed strong academic promise.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat commended the Lagos State University Muslim Alumni for its sustained investment in education and human capital development, noting that alumni-driven initiatives play a complementary role to government efforts in widening access to quality education.
The Lagos State University Muslim Alumni reaffirmed its commitment to educational advancement, stating that the annual scholarship programme remains a core pillar of its mission to empower future leaders and contribute to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
