A new set of executives of the Redeemer’s University Students Association (RUNSA) has been formally inaugurated for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a fresh chapter in student leadership at the institution, The Nigeria Education News reports.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Senate Chambers, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, and was witnessed by principal officers of the university, senior staff members, and student representatives.
A total of fourteen executives took the oath of allegiance to the university and the oath of office, with Iniongun John Terfa emerging as President of RUNSA for the 2025/2026 session. The inauguration officially empowers the new leadership to pilot student affairs for the academic year.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, charged the new executives to believe in the core values of Redeemer’s University and to draw lessons from past leadership experiences within the students’ union.

The Vice-Chancellor recalled that a similar swearing-in exercise had taken place on October 14, 2025, during which key leadership principles were emphasised. He noted that leadership in a university setting demands maturity, sacrifice, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Professor Akindele outlined four core principles expected to guide the new RUNSA leadership. First, he stressed the value of service, reminding the executives that leadership is not a privilege for dominance but an opportunity to serve. “Your leadership is not to lord it over your fellow students. You are to serve them,” he said.
Secondly, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised strict adherence to university rules and regulations. He urged the executives to be law-abiding in their conduct, adding that their actions should reflect the standards of a Christian university.
The third charge focused on cooperation with university management. Professor Akindele noted that meaningful progress can only be achieved when student leaders work in harmony with the administration to advance the vision and mission of the institution.
Lastly, he urged the executives to make a positive and lasting impact while learning from the immediate past RUNSA leadership, which was dissolved. He advised them to approach leadership with wisdom, accountability, and a forward-looking mindset.
Responding on behalf of the executives, RUNSA President, Iniongun John Terfa, expressed appreciation to the university management for the opportunity to serve. He described the new administration as one committed to partnership rather than confrontation.
“To our esteemed Vice-Chancellor and the University leadership, we acknowledge your guidance, your standards, and your unwavering commitment to excellence,” Iniongun said. “We do not see ourselves in opposition to management, but in partnership, working hand in hand to strengthen the legacy and vision of Redeemer’s University.”
The 300-level Public Health student further revealed that one of the administration’s key priorities is the completion of the RUNSA Secretariat Project. He disclosed that approved plans and detailed costing for the project are already in place.
“This is not an idea in formation; it is a project ready for execution,” he said, adding that once a proper handover is concluded, the secretariat project would become the administration’s first major assignment.
In random interactions with The Nigeria Education News, some students expressed optimism about the new leadership. A 200-level student said, “We hope this new executive will bring stability and focus on projects that benefit students directly.”
Another student noted that the emphasis on cooperation with management was encouraging. “What we need now is peace and progress, not constant tension,” the student said.
As the new RUNSA executives assume office, expectations remain high among the student body, with many hoping that the administration will deliver on its promises and foster a more inclusive, transparent, and service-driven student union for the 2025/2026 academic session.
